Why it's built this way
Most receipt apps upload your photo to a server to read it. Gloam doesn't, because it doesn't need to: the recognition runs on your phone. That single decision removes the entire question of who else has your receipts.
- Reading happens on your device. No cloud OCR, no AI service, no parsing server — none exists in the product.
- Photos stay put. Receipt images are never uploaded.
- An optional Private Vault encrypts your receipt data with a key only you hold, so not even we can read it. Off by default — it's your choice, and it comes with a real "lose the passphrase, lose the data" trade-off we'd rather you make deliberately.
- Or keep it entirely offline. On-device-only mode never syncs anything, anywhere.
- No analytics, no ads, no trackers. Including on this page — it makes no third-party requests of any kind.
